Bio

For over twenty years, I have assisted students of all levels with developing reading and writing skills. After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Psychology and a Master of Education Degree, I worked as a classroom teacher and later as a literacy specialist. I found that my attention was drawn to the students who were struggling.

In 2001, I pursued specialized training in how to effectively teach students with dyslexia. Since then, I have worked full-time as a literacy specialist in private practice, providing thousands of individual sessions with students spanning ages five to twenty who were not able to get what they needed from classroom instruction. Given that some of my students started with me in kindergarten and stayed with me into high school, I understand the developmental arc of reading and writing through the grades. This helps me know what skills to start building in advance of when they will be needed.

I continue to develop my knowledge of research-based methods for teaching reading and writing and strive to stay up-to-date with new information about the connections between neuroscience and learning.
