Approach

In addition to degrees in education and child psychology, I am trained in Slingerland®, which is a classroom adaptation of the multisensory, structured-language method of Orton-Gillingham for reading, writing, and spelling. I am also trained in The Writing Revolution®, which uses a scaffolded approach for learning the structures of sentences, paragraphs, and essays. However, the work that I do is a hybrid of many different sources and is shaped by the needs of students on an ongoing basis.

I work with a diverse group of learners who need support for a variety of reasons.

  • Gaps in skill development (reading, writing, executive functioning, organizational skills)
  • Second language learners, including students in immersive language programs who are struggling with English
  • Language-based learning differences (dyslexia, receptive & expressive language, auditory processing, and slow processing speed)
  • Twice-exceptional (gifted + one or more learning differences)

The students I work with do not fit into tidy boxes. Each young person has their own history, perspective, and needs. My role is to understand each student’s particular set of circumstances and provide assistance with building foundational skills to meet the academic demands of school.
